ABOUT THE NIGHT
Amara Okafor grew up playing in the back room of her uncle’s church in Peckham, and it shows. Kindred, out on Brownswood this autumn, is her first record as a leader.
Tonight the quartet plays it front to back, then takes requests. The Lantern Room holds 140 people, mostly standing, with twelve small tables along the wall.

“Kindred is the record I wanted to hear on a Thursday night. We play it the way it was written, then you pick.”
